Five Stars Arising

• its such a great feeling to hear from fellow sports enthusiasts and fans! during olympics, chit-chat topics when talking to others inevitably centred around sports most of the times. it really gets my adrenaline pumping! especially so whenever i see the singapore flag on my tv screen...

• as a student, i was involved in sports competitively at inter-school level. i would assume that most kids who play competitive sports and who put in their heart and soul into training, would dream of representing the country one day, some may even dream of becoming a world champion. i myself dreamt of donning the singapore flag one day.
• as i grew up and reached my teenage years, i realised getting to the national level was no longer a realistic dream. i went on to "downgrade" my dreams to representing the nation at youth level. these dreams all but vanished as i reached the end of my teenage years. at the end of the day, i suppose i just dont have what it takes to reach that level.
• as i left my childhood and teenage dream behind, the singapore flag became a sacred symbol. whenever i see the stars and the crescent on the red and white, im filled with pride, emotions, plus that little bit of regret. not a lot though, for i knew i had put in my best efforts all these years.
• i can still vividly remember this scene where i saw my peers receiving their flags from the coach, with the coach detailedly instructing them the correct position the flag must be sewed on. i was overwhelmed with feelings of envy which has remained til this day. well, 99% envy, 1% regret.
• if you have a dream, pursue it.
